Eugene Field Elementary

From CJC Architects

Eugene Field is a new, single story elementary school for Tulsa Public Schools replacing the original eighty year old school building. The new school was built adjacent to the existing school which continued in operation during construction. Three hundred fifty students from kindergarten through fifth grade and a program for four year-olds are housed in the facility. Decorative stone and terra cotta work removed from the old school was reused in the new school entry facade. The 45,475 square feet building includes two, ten classroom wings, a central media center, an administration area, art and music classrooms, a gymnasium with stage and a cafeteria with a full kitchen. The new school is heated and cooled by a ground source heat pump system which provides the school with operational cost savings.

Building construction is concrete slab-on-grade and conventionally framed structural steel. The exterior is brick with steel stud walls, aluminum windows, standing seam metal and built-up roofing. Each classroom has individual HVAC units providing better temperature control and simplified maintenance. This project was Tulsa Public School's first ground source heat pump system. The ground source well field has one hundred and twenty wells with a depth of 250 feet.
